I know it sounds daft, but I took the air filter cover off, to firstly clean the filter, but also to look at what could be done with the bland cover. I noticed, that quite a bit of gasket material was in the chamber, it’s a shame, but I had thrown out what I had cut out, so can’t show just how much. It was maybe approx. 2mm around the circumference Drove it today, and instantly it was pulling better, as I suspect the air was flowing better into the throttle. I would be interested if anyone else finds the same.

I just love the notion of such a fine detail and worthwhile doing.

I happened to do the same surgery I had about 1 mm, this can create a slight turbulance throttle to disturb the smooth filling.

The most satisfying performance upgrade are the free ones.

That's good, although Morgan have missed a trick here. Increasing the outer diameter ups the flow area a lot. Think rebores of cylinders. Two standard sizes of bore on a cross-flow engine is 60 thou, which makes an engine gain 60cc to 1660.
Only flaw I can think of is related to the ECU and how much fuel is injected. More air needs more fuel.

Martyn Can't fault the theory that more air requires more fuel , or it will run lean. To the best of my knowledge modern ECUs have adaptive learning EPROMs so when the air mass sensor detects a higher mass of air, the ECU should refer to the fuel map for that particular combination of throttle opening and engine load (plus other lesser variables) and then send a message to the injectors for the correct amount of fuel. I am no expert and there are many here whose knowledge is greater than mine, so I will wait their comments.

I know it sounds daft, ...Drove it today, and instantly it was pulling better... Nothing to do with atmospheric conditions etc etc, I'm sure!

Food for thought. Years and years ago BSA was prepping some BA10s for Daytona. All of a sudden the guys found another 3 horsepower. Where did THAT come from? Well it seems that an apprentice had installed a slightly smaller (I don't remember the details anymore) Amal. There was a lot back and forth head scratching, but when they reinstalled the bigger carb the 3HP was gone. The only reason they could come up with was that the slight step between the head and the carb caused a slightly better atmoization (word?) of the air fuel mixture, Personally I've always been fond of porting and polishing, but then sometimes I wonder---

Sometimes the turbulence is a benefit. But post throttle plate, not pre throttle plate.
